Giving Tuesday is coming December 1 !
Here is how your contribution to B.E.S.T. Service Dogs will make a difference: For Autism - There aren’t near enough service dogs to help children on the autism spectrum (the CDC states one in 54 children in the U.S. are born on the spectrum). Our puppies are life changers for both the children and their families! For Veterans suffering with PTSD - With the suicide rate of our veterans of 17 per day, service and therapy dogs have become critical when working through PTSD. B.E.S.T. Service Dogs is committed to get more service dogs to those in need. When you support B.E.S.T. Service Dogs, you are not only funding the daily care and training of our therapy and service dogs, your contribution brings a dog’s unique and precious gift to the world. A dog is THE perfect healing partner, unlike any other. Donate today!

I hope this blog finds you well what with all the Covid-19 craziness!
Here at B.E.S.T. Service Dogs this year we have raised awareness, educated children and adults about the amazing ways in which service dogs assist people who have physical disabilities or other special needs. Along with providing puppies to service dog organizations in the coming year, we have plans to engage in local activities with presentations for schools, businesses, organizations and clubs (as soon as we can get covid under control)! This year one of our only yearly fundraisers is the upcoming #GivingTuesday December 1st. Giving Tuesday national day of giving that provides the opportunity for you to support B.E.S.T. Service Dogs! We depend on the generosity of friends like you! You can donate now at www.bestservicedogs.org or support us through the Amazon Smile wish list! A special fundraiser is coming for this day, so stay tuned for more info! Well, like everyone else we are waiting and waiting for this Covid-19 thing to go away! Being home is really boring for the dogs, but we try to play and train and get some time in the puppy pool.
We are still waiting for our Starry girl to go into her heat cycle so we can get some much needed PUPPIES! Our Raven Heart is now 2 years old and will be having her hips xrayed this month for clearance. If all goes well, we will be breeding her this year. As luck my have it, we might have 2 litters at once, but I'll take it! It has been too long a wait to get more puppies out to the trainers and organizations that desperately need them! We got a donation from our local Costo today! Shop cards that we can use for our dogs and future puppies! We are so grateful for the support of our local community! And a LARGE shout out to those of you that are generously donating monthly to help us on our mission - creating independence through canine partnerships! Thank you so much, we are so grateful for our supporters. If you want to support the puppies and dogs that change lives, please consider a monthly donation. It's easy ! just look at our home page and there is the opportunity to sign up. You can also donate by checking out our Wish list at smile.amazon.com (Under B.E.S.T. Service Dogs). Thank you so much for listening in, checking in and supporting the dogs! Together we will get through this! Well, here we are in month 7? of this pandemic. Stay at home orders, masks, going crazy when you shop, going crazy when you are away from family and friends. It's a VERY good thing I have my lovely dogs here to help me survive this. Did you know that when you pet a dog, your heart rate slows, your blood pressure drops, Oxytocin is released (making you feel better) and Serotonin is inhibited (easing anxiety). All the good feels. I have 5 little therapists here helping me get along every day. I wish you all did as well. I wish I could get the pups out to the people so that they could help them cope as well. But we can't. Even trying to socialize Baby Joy has been difficult and will always have an impact on how she looks at the world.
We are lucky to have gotten some support from our donors, friends and family in a socially distanced way! We just got a donation of 4 beautiful x-pens (fences/cages) that we are able to section off another area for maintaining the dogs and the facilities. We also have gotten some donated time for upkeep of the yards. This is a BIG deal, so thank you to Gabe Kohler and to Rudy Lopez and Ted Northcutt! I have taken on some new clients for training as we can socially distance with the dogs. These visits will help keep us in kibble for now. We haven't been able to get out in the community to fundraise either, so we are looking to find new ways of doing that. We are selling dog themed face masks on this site and at our Etsy shop - fullmoondog. So take a look at those spots. You can also support us at smile.amazon.com. What would REALY help us out would be a monthly donation to help support the dogs. As little as $10 a month, (or more!) donated though this website helps with our food, bedding, and most importantly, our vet bills. We have Starry coming up for a breeding, Raven with her final hip exam, Sophie just had a spay. Tucker has been evaluated and is ready to be a dad when Raven is ready! Lots happening soon. We could sure use the support. Thanks for being here for use, even though we can't see you just yet! Stay safe and take care of your loved ones. an overview by B.E.S.T. Bringing together my passion for service dogs and assisting the autism community While researching Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) with regards to the service dog community, I discovered an organization in Detroit, Michigan called The Color of Autism Foundation. This non-profit organization provides information and services to families affected by autism in the Detroit African American community. The founder, Camille Parker knew something wasn’t right when her son was born. At the age of 1 she pushed for a diagnosis and was told he had autism. She ended up quitting her job to care for him full time. She found that to get the services she needed for her son she had to fight. Her mission is to help other families navigate for services for their children so that they would not have to struggle as she has. I contacted her for her input. B.E.S.T. Service Dogs is now offering specialized dog themed face masks as a fundraiser during these difficult times. As most areas are requiring face masks, why not don a beautiful dog themed mask and help a non-profit at the same time?
Send a message to us at bestservicedogs@gmail.com. Include whether it is for a man, woman or child and your contact information and we will get them right out for you! Or you can also order them for your group or organization, medical office or veterinary office. See the pictures for samples. Thank you for supporting B.E.S.T. Service Dogs!
I copied this from an email I got regarding Giving Tuesday this past December, and I wanted to share it. They say it way better than I could. Giving Tuesday is a global movement and not just a fundraising day. It's all about giving: Your time, your talent, your money, your support to bring more generosity in an incredibly self centered world. I am happy to be a part of that day and of that revolution. Thank you all for your continued support of B.E.S.T. Changing the world one dog at a time!
I had posted that we would have some exciting news this week and we certainly did! but there was bad news as well. We were hoping to hear the Starry had finally conceived and we would be expecting a litter. However, it was not to be. We did everything EXACTLY right, dates, many, many tests, many vet visits, Artificial Insemination and no pups on the ultrasound. Even our reproductive specialist, Dr. Bruce Christensen, was at a loss as to why this happened. I am devastated as she is the daughter of my dear Skye who's pedigree goes back to my first dog I bred in the early 90's. We will try one more time next year, but she will be done after that.
